We are proud to announce the Premier of the Mini-Documentary “Discovering Sites and Understanding Experiences Along the Trail of Tears in Steelville, Missouri.”
The Steelville premiere is July 4th – at Freedom Fest between 2:00 pm and 9:00 pm in the Steelville Community Park and Recreation Area (the big park).
The viewing is at the Steelville Trail of Tears Remembrance Committee’s booth?
This short documentary will be added to the film series, My Ozarks (myozarks.org) and will be available on H-TV (through Missouri Humanities).
If you aren’t familiar with the films found there, you should be! They help shine a positive light on rural Missouri! Steelville is one of those rural communities…we have good people doing good things!
Erin Whitson chose to come back home to work on the Trail of Tears for her PhD project. Archeology and anthropology walking hand-in-hand…helping to tell a story of people long ago…thru the use of modern tools (No ground disturbance!). Thank you to Ozark Vitality and Missouri Humanities for sharing her story. Her passion to ensure the past is remembered accurately is what drives her.
